Position Purpose:
Shuttle Driver are integral to the seamless functioning of the food supply chain, as they are tasked with delivering items to customers on time and in top-notch condition. Moreover, these drivers are the face of our brand, playing a pivotal role in forging enduring bonds with our customers
Shuttle Driver is responsible for driving a tractor trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight and drive and drop routes for the purpose of delivering and/or unloading food and food related products to customers in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Promotes professional communication and interaction with customers, vendors, and colleagues to provide accurate and timely responses to inquiries.
- Assumes a collaborative role within both the department and the organization, executing tasks as required to promote the company's interests.
- Completes required safety examinations, including pre and post-trip checks, through inspections of the tractor, truck, and trailer based on Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Additionally, verifies compliance with company safety protocols for the tractor, truck, and trailer and initiates appropriate actions if required.
- Promptly notify authorities of any safety concerns or required maintenance.
- Maintains compliance with DOT regulations and company-established safe driving guidelines.
- Rapidly reports safety hazards and inspects the trailer to ensure the freight is loaded and secured properly.
- Completes a count examination of items and authenticates customer invoices for items that have been loaded.
- Examines and finalizes all essential paperwork connected with cargo accurately and in a legible format.
- Drives the tractor to the loading area and connects the preloaded trailer if needed.
- Transports and delivers customer items following a predetermined delivery route.
- Transferring products from the trailer and placing them in designated customer storage locations.
- Conducts examinations on items to assess their condition, evaluates scanning reports, and informs a superior about the necessity to remove orders in adherence to company regulations.
- Checks with customers to verify item delivery and obtains the necessary signatures.
- Retrieves payments, including both cash and checks, where necessary. Loads customer refunds onto a trailer and ensures the trailer doors are tightly closed for transportation.
- Validates that the tractor, trailer, and freight are consistently locked and securely fastened.
- Duties include unloading damaged merchandise and customer returns, then delivering them to the driver check-in for paperwork completion. Remove trash from trailers and unload required equipment and materials as specified.
- Completes daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
- Manages general maintenance tasks in the tractor, loading dock area, and keeps trailers organized and clean as requested.
- Prior to leaving for the day, ensure that all equipment is safely stored and any required paperwork is finished.
- Carries out additional duties as given.
Qualification:
- Twelve months of professional experience as a commercial driver
- Meeting the educational prerequisites involves obtaining a high school diploma, GED, or a state-certified substitute
- Valid CDL A
- Satisfy state requirements for licensing and certification as needed
- To be eligible, one must be at least 21 years of age
- Request an untarnished driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles for the past three years
- Adhere to the stipulation of undergoing drug testing and criminal background checks after receiving an offer
- Pass road test
- Show proof of a current DOT Health Card or be able to attain a new DOT Health Card if required
- Proficient in manually lifting and operating two-wheelers, lift gates, and other tools to move and stack product cases or cargo of varying sizes and weights throughout the shift; products generally range from 10-35 pounds and occasionally go up to about 60-90 pounds, depending on the location
